Extraordinarily rare miniature knife with Stanhope lens jewel embedded in the handle. Stanhopes, or "peeps", are miniature microphotographic lenses incorporated in many novelty collectables produced from the mid-19th century onwards. Stanhopes can be found in a range of small collectables. To view the hidden image hold close to the eye, focused on a light source. The Stanhope contains an image of a arrangement of seven photographs of Niagara Falls. Handle made of exotic wood with a nickel silver guard and several spacers of different materials. Delicate filework all along the back of the handle and part of the handle. Mirror finish blade with Bodner stamp. Measures 2-1/2" long.
