Extraordinarily rare miniature knife with Stanhope lens jewel embedded in the handle. Stanhopes, or "peeps", are miniature microphotographic lenses incorporated in many novelty collectables produced from the mid-19th century onwards. Stanhopes can be found in a range of small collectables. To view the hidden image hold close to the eye, focused on a light source. This Stanhope contains an image of Madonna and chile (Our Lady of Perpetual Succour). Handle unique color and pattern. Brass bolster. Both handle and bolster have inlaid mosaic pins. Detailed filework all along the back from the butt of the handle to the tip of the blade. Mirror finish blade with Bodner stamp. Measures 2-15/16" long.
